Essentially, wire rope lubricants have three principal functions, and it is to reduce friction, provide wear protection and corrosion protection.

Field test with Klüberplex AG 11-462

Grease tests on the Vertical Lay System (VLS) 6 cables with Klüberplex AG 11-462 using a wire lubricating device:
Cable length – 680m
Diameter – 66mm

Results shown:
No relubrication for 8 months
After 37 immersions into sea water, grease remains at the wire surface

Conclusion:
Cable was protected from sea water and corrosion and an extension of lifetime is achieveable.
