The end of a trip ; the beginning of a new technology : water-based lubricants from Klüber Lubrication
Our constant research efforts, for innovative tribological solutions, enables us to use water as a basis for lubricants. The advantages of Hydro Lubricants range from low friction coefficients to improved health and safety.
Water offers significant functional advantages. It is sustainable, globally available, non-toxic and non-flammable. So far, water as speciality lubricant has been of limited applicability. However, Klüber Lubrication has succeeded in developing homogeneous lubricants with water as functional component : The so called Hydro Lubricants.
The first product group to use this technology transfer is already on the market, known as Klüberplus C 2 product series. In this application water and oil form a homogenous solution. This allows much finer, more even application of the lubricant. In addition, the evaporation offers a functional benefit, as it leads to a clear reduction of operating temperatures.
Due to improved dosing of the lubricant, it makes component cleaning during operation easier and minimises downtime. Even for health and safety reasons, Hydro Lubrication can create new opportunities : Water as application support to reduce fire hazards and is non-toxic when inhaled.
The Hydro Lubrication technology has just begun and offers great potential. Apart from being used in the existing Klüberplus C 2 series for the lubrication of conveyor belts, Hydro Lubricants will also be used in gears, bearings, industrial chains and stern tubes.
