Achieving the maximum

Analytics and preventive maintenance as a key factor for more efficiency of wind turbines

Downtimes due to unplanned maintenance or defective generators, gearboxes and bearings account for a large part of the operating and maintenance costs of wind turbines. The goal must therefore be to prevent failures and avoid damage to the components or to detect them at an early stage. Custom-fit speciality lubricants play just as important a role as continuous maintenance of the components. At WindEnergy 2022 in Hall B6, Stand 531, Klüber Lubrication will be presenting its comprehensive service range for preventive maintenance, which helps operators to increase the availability of the systems and reduce operating costs.

"Due to our principle of preventive maintenance, downtimes can be reduced, which results in an increase in production," explains Thomas Wunder, Sales Development Manager at Klüber Lubrication. "Essentially, we are constantly improving on how to keep the components as clean as possible at all times and to ensure that the lubricants can optimally fulfill their function."

Not only in systems that are operated beyond the originally intended service life, the generator bearings often run at excessively high temperatures. This supports the formation of hardened grease residues, which in turn can lead to vibrations, bearing damage and even to the system being switched off in the event of overheating. The newly developed cleaning grease Klübersynth BZ 68-400 removes these residues and significantly reduces temperature-related shutdowns.

Just as important is to know the condition of the oils and greases and to draw the right conclusions from this – because changing the lubricant too early can be just as harmfull as changing it too late. Analysis is therefore an integral part of preventive maintenance at Klüber Lubrication. With decades of experience and in cooperation with leading bearing manufacturers and wind farm operators, the tribology expert has developed a portfolio of lubricants and services that ensure the optimization of grease service life and bearing operating hours.

Under the motto "Wherever the wind takes you, we´ll be there", Klüber Lubrication will be showing its portfolio of biodegradable special lubricants and services for the wind industry in Hall B6, Stand 531.
