Ensure longer chain life in your bakery even at temperatures above 1000°F (537°C)
Highly elevated temperatures are a challenge in the food processing industry, especially in bakeries that use oven conveyor chains. As temperatures rise to well over 10000 F, typical chain oil evaporates and leaves the chain unprotected. A solid lubricant like black graphite can be used in such cases to protect the chains. But most solid lubricants do not have food grade registration and can compromise the safety and quality of the food product. Another alternative would be to use a food-grade lubricant, such as synthetic esters; but these too evaporate at temperatures above 500-600°F (260-315°C). Again, this would require constant re-lubrication leading to higher cost as well as high levels of residue inside the chain.
For bakery operators and manufacturers the dilemma was to either provide the best protection possible for the equipment without using a food-grade lubricant, or switch to an NSF H1 lubricant with the expenses of higher lubricant consumption and shorter equipment life.
Klüberfood NH1 CH 6-120 SUPREME
The food-grade protector of oven chains even at extreme temperatures
Klüberfood NH1 CH 6-120 SUPREME is a formulation that combines the best of both worlds. The product uses carefully selected synthetic base oil as a carrier with a white solid lubricant held in suspension. The base oil evaporates cleanly with very little residue. This provides the best protection possible from the solid lubricant. This formulation has excellent wetting and penetration properties on application, and can be used at operating temperatures even up to 1200°F (650°C). Besides, it is NSF H1 registered for incidental contact safety.
In all industries, but particularly in the food industry, it is valuable to understand the makeup of the lubricant that is applied to equipment operating at various elevated temperatures.
- Extends lubrication intervals for oven chains used to produce tortillas, breads, pizza dough and other baked goods; and remarkably reduces relubrication costs.
- NSF H1 registration supports industry standard food safety and process reliability
- Protects conveyor chains exposed to extreme temperatures, even up to 1200°F (650°C)
- ISO 21469 certification verifies lubricant manufacturing and packaging using fully hygienic standards,
- The lubricant can be applied at a lower temperature to allow penetration of the solid additives.
Klüber Lubrication leads the industry with a total of five global locations that are NSF ISO 21469 certified. Certification from the NSF ensures that the food-grade lubricants are manufactured in a hygienic environment, using both best practices and safe ingredients. Klüber also offers food processors support on best practices — such as proper storage, handling and application — to further mitigate risks.
