Insatiable global demand has put the oil and gas industry under never-before pressure. To meet this requirement more complex wells and equipment function for longer hours under rough weather conditions. Drilling equipment faces excess wear with the numerous environmental impacts, and imposes challenging limitations on the industry. In addition, ecologically sensitive environments demand that drilling operations are minimally obtrusive or polluting. These extreme circumstances are pushing rig components to the limit and maintenance intervals have become shorter because of corrosion and wear. Offshore rig operators and equipment maintenance managers are fraught with various woes, lubrication not being the least of them.
Oil and gas industrialists and manufacturers of tubing or casing for offshore drilling equipment have long awaited an eco-friendly, high-performance lubricant that would have least impact on the marine ecology, yet ensure reliable operation of their rig machinery. Klüber Lubrication has developed a full range of products that enable rig machinery to work smoothly – from the crown to the mud system, from the deck crane to the jacking leg. Among these are products that are especially designed for valves and fittings, threaded connections and all other rig components.
A quietly efficient, least intrusive solution
Klübersustain SA 42-41 OS is an eco-friendly, high-performance lubricant that ensures reliable operations and reduces rig downtime for relubrication and maintenance. Developed to lubricate the connections of tool joints, tubing- and casing-strings on offshore drilling rigs, the grease can be used as corrosion protection for these components during storage as well. It is also applicable for the manual lubrication of legs of jack up rigs as well as highly loaded, slow moving components where ecological compatibility and corrosion protection are necessary.
Klübersustain SA 42-41 OS is a thread compound designed to provide superior make up and break out performance by minimizing or eliminating galling and seizing. It also sports a wide operating temperature range and excellent performance under extreme pressure applications; which results in longer operating intervals and longer component life. Besides, the lube combines very high load-carrying capacity, good anti-wear and anti-corrosive properties and excellent adhesion to surfaces. All of which add up to reduced operating cost and increased profitability.
Made for sensitive environments
Klübersustain SA 42-41 OS meets the requirements for OSPAR conformance, including Norway Yellow 1 and Cefas E Registration No. 26586.
Ease of use
Many rig components are difficult to access, which turns maintenance into a nightmare. Klübersustain SA 42-41 OS is easily applicable in wet environments and adheres well to wet surfaces. The grease can be applied using a brush to ensure even distribution. The required lubricant quantity depends on the operating conditions in each individual case. For large central lubricant or spray systems, it is advisable to use Klübersustain OM 42- 40 OS instead.
All in all, Klübersustain SA 42-41 OS enables the machinery on a drilling rig to meet the industry‘s aggressive demands for continuous operation and often extreme temperature and pressure conditions.
