From traditional internal combustion engines to electric drives – we have been working closely with manufacturers of cars, commercial vehicles and motorbikes for decades to develop innovative, sustainable lubricant concepts for current and future requirements. Based on our shared knowledge and experience, we are now tackling some of the most important challenges surrounding the “new mobility” of the future.

Mobility concepts: solutions for every drive system and vehicle type

High speeds, temperatures and forces as well as aggressive media: lubricants for engines and the drive train have to meet demanding requirements. New mobility is making this even more difficult: electrically powered cars, bikes, lorries, and buses – be it with battery, hybrid, or fuel cell technology – require innovative lubricant concepts.

As an example, drive design is becoming more compact as smaller, simplified gearboxes are used. This downsizing leads to increased heat generation and higher speeds.

Drive-by-wire technology has significantly expanded the area of application for actuators – particularly in steering, clutch and braking systems for electric or electrically assisted cars, bikes and commercial vehicles. When selecting a suitable lubricant for ball screws, direct steering response, low-wear operation at high load capacities and impact loads are all relevant.

Specialty lubricants customised for new mobility

  • We present a selection of our products and test methods developed for these diverse requirements in our free white paper, ‘New mobility requires a new generation of customised specialty lubricants; electromechanical components depend on reliable lubrication over long periods of time’.

Lubricant development: innovative and collaborative

Electric, hybrid, and fuel cell technology: the automotive industry is repositioning itself for the future with new drive concepts. We support our customers and partners with benefit-oriented, innovative and sustainable lubricant solutions. Together, we aim to make a difference.

Some of our lubricants are tailored to the high torques of electric drives. Or aid in the dissipation and grounding of electrical potentials. We have designed customised specialty lubricants for electric drive bearings to prevent premature damage caused by electric arcs.

Our specialty lubricants are tested on over 100 in-house test rigs. They are specially developed for the respective application scenarios and based on standards and specific requirements. The material compatibility of our products is put through its paces before they are handed over to customers for field trials. Working closely with vehicle manufacturers and their suppliers on an equal footing at an early stage in the development of new lubricants has proven effective time and time again. Approvals from well-known manufacturers for our products in original equipment and maintenance confirm this approach.
