Powerful speciality lubricants for highly reliable rail traffic

Klüber Lubrication will be presenting its comprehensive portfolio of new and tried-and-tested products at InnoTrans 2012 in Berlin

Munich, 18 September 2012 - Lubricants play a decisive role in the maintenance of railway components. To ensure that trains and rails work reliably under all weather conditions, equipment like wheelset bearings, traction motors or brakes and the entire railway infrastructure must be maintained in optimum condition. Klüber Lubrication will be presenting its comprehensive range of powerful speciality lubricants for the railway industry under the motto "Speciality lubricants from Klüber Lubrication - making a point of being on time!" at the InnoTrans 2012 in Berlin

An overview of new developments
The new wheel flange lubricant Klüberrail LEA 62-2000 ensures good wear protection for wheels and rails and reduces stick slip effects on curves to reduce noise. The fluid grease is suitable for use in automatic spray systems and provides excellent adhesion, making sure it stays on the wheel, even at high speeds. Furthermore, it offers very good water resistance. The base oil used for Klüberrail LEA 62-2000 is rapidly biodegradable according to OECD 301 F.

Klüberrail AL 32-3000, another innovation, is a synthetic readily biodegradable speciality lubricant for switches, ensuring low adjustment forces of switches at temperatures down to minus 30 degrees. It can be applied by both portable spraying devices and brush and is very resistant to UV rays. Its good water resistance combined with good corrosion protection allow a considerable extension of maintenance intervals.

Klüber Lubrication developed the hybrid grease Klübersynth BHP 72-102 especially for traction motor bearings constantly operated at temperatures considerably above 100 °C. It extends relubrication intervals significantly compared to conventional lubricants. The powerful hybrid grease has shown to run for hundreds of thousands of kilometres without relubrication in practical use. Besides the rolling bearing grease ISOFLEX TOPAS L 152, which is used for permanent temperatures up to 100 °C and has been tried and tested in many field applications, a product for long-term lubrication above 100 °C is now also available.

Klübersynth GE 4 75 W 90 for railway gear applications is a fully synthetic high-performance gear oil with high scuffing load capacity and micro-pitting resistance. The base oil's pronounced shear stability prevents the lubricant film from collapsing even under high loads, which is essential to protect both teeth and rolling bearings. Besides good protection against corrosion and wear, the oil offers excellent low-temperature behaviour as well as a high resistance to ageing and oxidation, which leads to considerably less frequent oil changes becoming necessary.
