Munich, September 23rd, 2014 – Overhead lines made of copper or copper alloys are subject to considerable wear when in contact with the pantographs, i.e. the current collectors of trains. The new special lubricant Klüberrail ALO 32-250 from Klüber Lubrication ensures reliable lubrication of the friction point between the overhead lines and the metal contact strips of the pantograph. Klüberrail ALO 32-250 offers excellent adhesive properties which prevent the lubricant from dripping off. In combination with its excellent water resistance and high oxidation protection, reliable lubrication between the contact strip and the overhead line is ensured even under adverse weather conditions.
"The exchange of overhead line involves high costs - replacing just one kilometer of this wire costs as much as approx. € 60,000. The Spanish railway infrastructure administration ADiF replaces 500 - 1,000 kilometres of overhead lines per year", explains Thomas Kamprath, Market Manager Rail at Klüber Lubrication. "Further issues are high personnel costs and the disturbance of rail traffic during maintenance operation. Klüberrail ALO 32-250 reduces wear and ensures long relubrication intervals, thus making a substantial contribution to cost reduction."
Klüberrail ALO 32-250 reduces the formation of electric arcs and improves the electrical contact between the overhead line and the pantograph. In addition, it lowers the vibration and noise level. The base oil contained in the new speciality lubricant is rapidly biodegradable and environmentally compatible. Klüberrail ALO 32-250 is applied by special "lubrication trains".
