Munich, September 9th, 2014 – Many lubrication points on a ship are in contact with seawater. Two criteria are particularly important to prevent the lubricant from being washed off from time to time affecting the eco-system: On the one hand, the lubricant has to be highly adhesive and, on the other hand, it has to comply with all requirements on environmental compatibility. With Klüberbio AG 39-602, Klϋber Lubrication has now launched a new, eco-compatible adhesive lubricant for open gears and steel cables.
“This speciality grease is targeted for applications that require adhesion, corrosion protection, resistance to water washout, and high protection from wear,” says Dirk Fabry, Business Development Manager, Business Unit Marine, Oil & Gas from Klüber Lubrication. "The main application areas of Klüberbio AG 39-602 are steel cables and open pinion drives of winches and cranes. Additionally, the grease can be used for the lubrication of plain bearings, e.g. in rudder posts or davits of lifeboats. Its high base oil viscosity of 600 mm²/s ensures an excellent lubricating film thickness and reduces wear of components."
Klüberbio AG 39-602 contains more than 60 percent of renewable raw materials, resulting in reduced environmental impact in the event of discharge into water. The new adhesive lubricant is based on ester oil and complies with the 2013 Vessel General Permit requirements of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in terms of biodegradability, minimal toxicity and bio-accumulation to be met by Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants (Appendix A of the US EPA VGP (Vessel General Permit) 2013).
Klüberbio AG 39-602 can be applied continuously through transfer lubrication with pinion or by brush. For the lubrication of steel cables also automatic lubrication systems can also be used.
