Munich, September 9th, 2014 – Oil leaking through propeller water side-seals caused by operational wear, accidents or incorrect operation can entail a high environmental impact on the sensitive eco-systems in the seas worldwide. Klüber Lubrication developed Klüberbio EG oils, a series of readily biodegradable gear oils especially for thrusters and rudder propellers based on synthetic ester oil. Klüberbio EG 2 oils contain more than 90 percent of renewable raw materials. Their biodegradability is 28 days according to the OECD 301 F test. Klüberbio EG 2 oils are non-toxic to marine organisms, bear the European Ecolabel and comply with the requirements of the 2013 Vessel General Permit defined by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for classification as an Environmentally QAcceptable Lubricant (EAL).
"Die Klüberbio EG 2 oils offer a high scuffing load capacity to protect the gear teeth against damage even at high peak loads", explains Dirk Fabry, Business Development Manager, Business Unit Marine, Oil & Gas from Klüber Lubrication. "As the oils are resistant to oxidation and hydrolysis, they offer a significantly longer service life than other Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants. Consequently, oil change intervals are extended and maintenance and disposal costs reduced."
Klüberbio EG 2 oils are compatible with commercial elastomers made of NBR and FKM. The gear oils are approved by leading manufacturers of propellers shaft seals and thrusters.
