Shock absorbers in washing machines: new test rig for optimised lubricant selection

To offer their customers optimised solutions for future requirements, Klüber Lubrication has developed a new test rig for shock absorbers in washing machines that allows testing to vital OEM requirements.

All types of shock absorbers can be tested on this rig, especially to determine their friction and wear behaviour during operation.

Shock absorbers have an important job in washing machines: they influence noise generation during washing machine operation and help to buffer and balance the drum, preventing the machine from shaking even when spinning with high speed. Shock absorbers constitute very demanding tribo-systems. Furthermore, the various types of shock absorbers and their variants often require different types of lubricant.

Special lubricants can help manufacturers decisively in dealing with increasing technical requirements, e.g. the wish for higher drum speeds, defined noise levels, larger drums, lower temperatures as well as a longer useful life.

Tests performed on lubricants for use in washing machine shock absorbers under mechanical-dynamical conditions provide reliable data on the performance rendered in an individual tribological system. This helps in the selection of the optimum lubricant for the shock absorber to unfold its full performance potential. Consultation at an early stage is therefore always worthwhile.
