Wind turbines are exposed to high and constantly changing loads, vibration, humidity, corrosive environments, and wide temperature range every day. At the same time, maintenance is demanding and aims to perform at long intervals.

How can you keep your turbines running reliably under these conditions?

A key factor is the right approach to wind turbine lubrication, from initial filling to relubrication during operation. At Klüber Lubrication, we support you with solutions developed for real operating conditions, helping you protect critical components and plan maintenance with greater confidence.

Why wind turbine lubrication matters

Your turbine performance depends on reliable lubrication. Bearings, gearboxes, yaw and pitch systems operate under demanding conditions with precision like clockwork and require lubrication tailored to their application.

With the right wind turbine lubrication strategy, you can:

  • Support stable operation under changing loads
  • Reduce lubrication-related risks
  • Improve maintenance planning
  • Extend service intervals where conditions allow

One partner for the full 360°

Reliable operation requires more than a single product. That is why Klüber Lubrication combines products, services, and expertise at every stage of the turbine lifecycle.

What this means for you:

  • Wind-specific lubricant development based on decades of experience
  • Close cooperation with OEMs aligned with specifications
  • Extensive testing to validate solutions before field use
  • Global availability with local production and support
  • Lubricant condition analysis (LuCA) for data-based maintenance decisions
  • A practical toolbox portfolio to solve in-the-field issues without stopping the turbine

Solutions for key wind turbine applications

Our wind turbine lubrication portfolio covers all major applications:

  • Main shaft and generator bearings
  • Gearboxes
  • Yaw and pitch systems
  • Slip rings, elevators, electrical contacts, pins and bolts

Each solution is selected based on your application, operating conditions and maintenance strategy—ensuring a practical fit for your turbine

The allrounder – for blade, main bearing, generator: Klüberplex BEM 41-141

  • Wide service temperature range combined with good pumpability in central lube system
  • Good wear, especially under oscillation conditions
  • Reliable grease distribution and oil separation
  • High film thickness
  • Good reflow capabilities

The Protector for main bearings: Klüberplex BEM 41-301

  • Main bearing grease with 300 cSt
  • Specially developed for large MW turbine generations, i.e., onshore and offshore
  • High film thickness
  • Outstanding wear protection
  • Wide service temperature range
  • Good pumpability
  • Good balance between high base oil viscosity for standard Kappa value calculation and reflow capabilities

Long service intervals for generator bearings: Klüberplex BEM 34-131 N

  • Outstanding corrosion protection and good anti-false brinelling protection
  • Extended lifetime
  • High temperature resistance
  • Good pumpability in centralized lubricating systems at low temperature
  • High film thickness, good seal compatibility
  • Improved oil separation to ensure continuous lubrication

White and tacky for open gears: Klüberplex AG 11-461/462

  • Offers good adhesion and does not drop from the tooth flanks, even in vertical orientation. This reduces lubricant consumption, disposal, and nacelle cleaning costs.
  • Light color prevents staining of the nacelle and tower.
  • Good pumpability and metering in centralized lubricating systems, hence trouble-free turbine operation and availability.
  • Anti-corrosive effect provided during non-operation as well as in offshore applications where the nacelle is exposed to salty, humid air
  • Also available as a low-temperature version: Klübersynth AG 14-61
