Extend Bearing Life by Using Klüber ISOFLEX TOPAS L 32 at Low Temperatures

Klüber Lubrication joined forces with Peak Diagnostics to perform the following case study on a dust collection blower pillow block inboard bearing.

Using the wrong lubricant in gears and bearings can lead to significant consequences. Threats of wear, corrosion, and oxidation put your operation at risk of inefficiency and failure. That’s why Klüber Lubrication created Klüber ISOFLEX TOPAS L 32, a special low-temperature grease designed to increase efficiency and extend the life of your operation. To test its effectiveness, Klüber Lubrication joined forces with Peak Diagnostics to perform the following case study on a dust collection blower pillow block inboard bearing.

The low-temperature bearing was using a regular mineral-based lubricant with the wrong Kappa value, resulting in a high decibel level of 65 dB and a poor vibration level of 2.1 gSE. The bearing was wasting lubrication, wearing severely, and approaching failure.

The bearing was washed out with Klübersynth BZ68-400, then Klüber ISOFLEX TOPAS L 32 was applied to achieve the correct Kappa value. At inspection a month later, the bearing had improved to levels of 46 dB and .8 gSE. Following preventative maintenance, levels had once again dropped to reach excellent values of 38 dB and .35 gSE the following month.

These changes indicate a significant improvement in both noise level and temperature, leading to higher efficiency, decreased risk of failure, and longer life span in both the lubricant and equipment.

Klüber ISOFLEX TOPAS L 32 is a synthetic-based oil specifically designed for use at low temperatures. In addition, it has excellent corrosion protection properties, as well as ageing and oxidation stability.
