REACH

REACH – new rules for all substances in Europe

The European regulation for substances "Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals" (REACH) refers not only to the properties of chemicals but also to their uses and the entire value-added chain. It has consequences not only for the chemical sector, but for industry as a whole.

Klüber Lubrication aims at enabling a wide range of uses for its lubricants and the substances they contain, e.g. through contacts with raw materials suppliers. Legal compliance of lubricants has high priority for Klüber Lubrication in order to ensure availability of our products at any time.

The objectives of REACH:

  • Highest priority for human health and environmental protection
  • Supporting the innovative strengths of the European chemical industry, combined with a high safety level of products produced
  • European Union-wide, standardised legal system with a rational decision-making process and clear deadlines

REACH holds considerable challenges for many companies. Upon preregistration, REACH will be implemented step by step: for substances produced in volumes of

  • more than 1000 tons per year as of December 2010,
  • 100 to 1000 tons per year as of June 2013
  • 1 to 100 tons per year as of June 2018.

The substances subject to registration are the so-called "phase-in" chemicals, most of them old substances that were already on the European market before 1981 and are listed in the EINECS chemical register. New substances and substances already listed in ELINCS have already been transferred to the REACH system and do not have to be registered again.
