In the food-processing industry, screw and piston-type compressors are frequently used in refrigeration machines operating with ammonia as refrigerant. As the ammonia is being compressed, some of the lubricating oil will inevitably be entrained with the refrigerant flow and carried into the refrigeration cycle in the form of droplets or oil vapour. Vaporised oil is not separated off in the oil traps and may react with the ammonia, resulting in problems like frequent clogging of oil filters, poor heat exchange due to rubber-like deposits in the refrigeration cycle, shorter oil change intervals and increasing wear on the components. The refrigeration compressor oil Klüber-Summit RHT-68 made by Klüber Lubrication significantly reduces these adverse effects of oil carryover. This product consists of a highly refined, paraffin-based mineral oil with a low tendency to evaporate, which reduces oil carryover into the refrigeration cycle and stabilises the oil's viscosity, leading to lower oil consumption. Klüber-Summit RHT-68 also has a higher chemical and thermal stability than naphthene-based oils; consequently, it will not react with the ammonia, the oil will retain its light colour and will not form deposits on hot compressor components or in the evaporator. As a result, the efficiency of the refrigerator is higher and energy costs are reduced. There is no need for frequent oil changes, cleaning or maintenance, so continuous operation is possible without interruption. The refrigeration compressor oil is miscible with all mineral oils. Consequently, changeover from naphthene-based oils is possible without difficulty.
