Lifetime lubrication of bearings subject to high speeds and temperatures

Conventional high-speed lubricating greases allow high bearing RPMs and offer long life expectancy under normal operating conditions. However, things look different at high temperatures. Klüber Lubrication now presents Klüberalfa BF 83-102, a new special lubricating grease which can be used both at speeds up to 1 million RPM and at high permanent temperatures. This PFPE-based grease has a service temperature range from -50 to +200°C and is resistant to aggressive media like exhaust gases or pure oxygen. Thus performance of components can be increased, for example through higher speed tolerances at high temperatures and longer service life.

The new product has been designed for the lifetime lubrication of rolling bearings running at high speeds and temperatures, e.g. in turbochargers, turbine gears, generators or fuel cells. This innovative combination of properties - excellent speed tolerance and high thermal stability - opens up many new possibilities of application unsuitable for grease lubrication so far, for example small-size components. Klüberalfa BF 83-102 passed the in-house test over 1 million RPMs not only at room temperatures (step test) but also at bearing temperatures of 160°C (long-term test).
