Speciality lubricants in wind turbines extend maintenance intervals and avoid downtimes
Klüber Lubrication, globally active manufacturer of speciality lubricants, will be presenting lubrication solutions for wind turbines from September 9 to 13 at the HUSUM WindEnergy Trade Fair. In hall 3, stand C36, the tribology experts from Klüber will be showing how to avoid downtimes and extend turbines’ lifetimes with speciality lubricants. Lubricants as a component are often underestimated when it comes to the operation of wind turbines. Maintenance and repair, very often to be carried out under unfavourable circumstances, is costly and can lead to downtimes. Speciality lubricants by Klüber Lubrication extend maintenance intervals significantly compared to conventional lubricants and bring considerable cost advantages. “The investment in speciality lubricants will have paid off after the first extended maintenance interval as the lubricant costs for the entire lifetime of a turbine correspond to the cost of just one single inspection”, explains Peter Mages, Industry Group Manager, Klüber Lubrication. “Operators can reduce the risk of downtimes, increase the turbines’ lifetime and protect their investments at low cost”. At the HUSUM WindEnergy 2008 Trade Fair, the focus of Klüber Lubrication is on high-performance gear oils and the lubrication of bearings in wind turbines. Klüber Lubrication’s special grease for rolling bearings Klüberplex BEM 41-141 has a wide application range in all types of wind turbines: Instead of having different lubricating greases for each friction point, Klüberplex BEM 41-141 can be used for all types of rolling bearings. This reduces the risk of confusing lubricants and saves storage space and money. The high-performance gear oils from Klüber extend service intervals in wind turbines. Not only do Klüber’s gear oils comply with all requirements set forth by gear manufacturers, manufacturers of rolling bearings and OEMs of wind turbines; they also meet operators’ requirements. The low friction coefficients of synthetic gear oils reduce frictional heat. Furthermore, synthetic gear oils have a high thermal stability, which leads to decreased oil oxidation. Klüber gear oils provide good wear protection and a high load-carrying capacity in bearings and gear teeth while ensuring low residue formation. Event Speech on “Tribological aspects in wind turbines“ during the congress at HUSUM WindEnergy on 9/11/08, 11.00-12.00 h, room 2.
